Kinder through 8th grade - What does that look like?

Barnette Magnet School teaches Kindergarten through 8th grade, making us an Elementary School AND a Middle School! Here at Barnette, we want to foster each students curiosity, creativity and general love for learning! We strive to offer engaging instruction in the arts, technology, languages, and movement.

For our Elementary students, we have created a wonderful place for students to have access to quality core academic time (math, reading, & writing) with their homeroom teacher, AND having the freedom to choose Exploration Courses that interest them! Students will have uninterrupted "Core Time" with their homeroom teacher to ensure they are receiving high quality instruction. Then, because of this amazing opportunity that we offer, students will rotate throughout the remainder of the day to join other teachers and students to participate in the Exploration that they have chosen!

For our Middle School students, they will have a homeroom teacher as well, but will then rotate through out their day, much like a middle school model to receive their core instruction. They too will then rotate to their Exploration classes after! 

Kindergarten is our only grade that does not participate in Explorations. Instead, our kinders practice routine, social skills, and academics to help build them up for continued academic success. Each Kindergarten class has one teacher and one aide to help support these young scholars navigate their new world. During their week in addition to their core studies, they will participate in Music, PE, and Library as well as Art Lessons with our very own art teacher!
